Pirates Promote Brandon Cumpton For Today’s Start

Published:

The Pittsburgh Pirates have recalled right-handed pitcher Brandon Cumpton from Triple-A Indianapolis for today’s start. Cumpton is replacing Wandy Rodriguez in the rotation for at least this start, and could make additional starts while Rodriguez is out. To make room on the 25-man roster, the Pirates optioned Jared Hughes to Triple-A. Hughes was called up earlier in the week when Wandy Rodriguez went on the disabled list, providing the Pirates with an extra reliever for a few days.

For more on Brandon Cumpton, check out Ryan Palencer’s article from yesterday, which talks about Cumpton’s strong start to the year, and includes his upside from an NL scout.
