The Pittsburgh Pirates are reportedly favorites to sign 17-year-old Taiwanese shortstop Zheng Zong-Zhe. According to the article, he’s one of the top shortstop prospects in the country and he decided to not enter the Chinese Professional Baseball League draft in favor of going overseas to play.
The deal is reported to be for at least $300,000 and it wouldn’t be announced until Tuesday when the new international signing period begins. The Pirates have the largest bonus pool this year ($6,481,200), so expect them to be busy on Tuesday.
