Pirates Prospect Watch: Geovanny Planchart and Kervin Pichardo Homer in the AFL

Two Pirates prospects homered in the Arizona Fall League on Wednesday.

Kervin Pichardo and Geovanny Planchart both launched home runs in Scottsdale’s 11-10 loss to Peoria. It was the first AFL homer for Pichardo and the second for Planchart.

Pichardo hit his homer in the third inning, putting Scottsdale up 3-0 with his two run shot. The second baseman went 2-for-5, also hitting an RBI single in the ninth inning as the Scorpions tried to come back.

Planchart had a big game, with four hits in five at-bats. He started the scoring with an RBI single in the second inning, knocking in a run. His home run came in the ninth inning, bringing Scottsdale to within one run with a two run shot. Planchart also singled in the fourth and eighth innings.

SCOTTSDALE lost 11-10

  • C Geovanny Planchart: 4-for-5, HR, 3 RBI
  • 2B Kervin Pichardo: 2-for-5, HR, 3 RBI
  • CF Sammy Siani: 1-for-1
  • RHP Brandan Bidois: 1.0 IP, 0 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 1 K

Sammy Siani entered the game late, and singled in his lone at-bat. The hit came after Planchart homered, with Siani continuing the rally as the potential tying run. He was eventually stranded on second. The hits from Planchart and Siani were with two outs.

Brandan Bidois pitched the seventh inning, allowing a run due to control problems. Bidois walked the leadoff hitter, who stole second base. A wild pitch on ball four to the next batter put runners at first and third. Bidois got a double play ball, trading a run for two outs. He struck out the final batter to end his inning.
