Pirates Prospect Watch: Nick Yorke’s Homer Leads a Massive Comeback For Indianapolis

Nick Yorke keeps hitting in Triple-A.

The infielder had a three hit game on Sunday for Indianapolis, including his seventh homer of the year. The two run shot came in the fifth inning, helping to spark a comeback. Indianapolis was losing 8-1 at the time, and went on to win 10-9.

Yorke’s homer traveled 401 feet at 101.8 MPH. He also had a single at 107.5 MPH and another single at 98 MPH.

The Pirates acquired Yorke at the trade deadline for Quinn Priester. In his first month with Indianapolis, he hit .340/.405/.460 with 12 doubles, but didn’t homer. His other six homers at the Triple-A level came in Boston’s system prior to the trade.

TRIPLE-A: INDIANAPOLIS INDIANS

INDIANAPOLIS won 10-9, with Nick Yorke’s homer leading the comeback.

  • 2B-CF Ji Hwan Bae: 2-for-5
  • LF Edward Olivares: 1-for-4, HR, 2 RBI, SB
  • C Dylan Shockley: 2-for-4, HR, 2 RBI
  • CF-LF Matt Gorski: 1-for-4, BB, SB

Edward Olivares hit his third homer in Triple-A in the sixth inning. The two run shot cut the lead to 8-5. Billy Cook tied it up in the seventh with a three run shot, his 14th in Triple-A. Cook was also acquired at the deadline, and hit .277/.351/.434 with two homers in the month of August. He also stole seven bases. Dylan Shockley gave Indianapolis the eventual winning run with a two run homer in the seventh, capping off a five run inning and a nine-run comeback.

STATCAST HEROES

The homer from Olivares traveled 417 feet at 104 MPH. The homer from Cook traveled 420 feet at 107.2 MPH. The homer from Shockley traveled 386 feet at 98.4 MPH.

DOUBLE-A: ALTOONA CURVE

ALTOONA won 5-2

Nick Dombkowski has combined for one earned run on two hits and no walks in nine innings over his last two starts in Altoona. The lefty has 11 strikeouts in that span. This was his second start with four perfect innings in the last month, with the other taking place on August 15th. Tres Gonzalez stole his ninth base of the season, while driving in the final run of the game in a five-run bottom of the eighth for Altoona.

HIGH-A: GREENSBORO GRASSHOPPERS

GREENSBORO lost 3-2

  • LHP Michael Kennedy: 5.0 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 5 K
  • 3B Duce Gourson: 1-for-3, BB, SB
  • LF P.J. Hilson: 2-for-4, 2B, SB
  • RF Lonnie White Jr.: 2-for-3, 2B, BB
  • 1B Geovanny Planchart: 1-for-4, RBI

Michael Kennedy made his debut in High-A, picking up where he left off in Bradenton. The lefty allowed one run in five innings, with one walk and five strikeouts. Kennedy pitched five innings with one run or fewer in his final three starts in Single-A, before being promoted to the new level. P.J. Hilson hit his 14th double and stole his 14th base. Lonnie White Jr. hit his ninth double. Duce Gourson stole his first base in High-A.

SINGLE-A: BRADENTON MARAUDERS

BRADENTON lost 18-4

  • RHP Khristian Curtis: 3.0 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K
  • CF Will Taylor: 3-for-5, HR, SB, RBI
  • DH Keiner Delgado: 2-for-5, 2B, SB, RBI
  • RF Shalin Polanco: 2-for-4, 3B, RBI
  • 3B Yerry De Los Santos: 2-for-4, SB, RBI

Will Taylor, drafted in the fifth round, hit his second homer of his pro career. He also stole his second base. Keiner Delgado hit his 11th double and stole his 22nd base. Shalin Polanco hit his second triple of the year. Yerry De Los Santos stole his eighth base since moving up to Single-A. Khristian Curtis has allowed one earned run in seven innings over his last two appearances, with the bigger stat being that he’s allowed one walk in that time.

STATCAST HEROES

The homer from Taylor traveled 388 feet at 104.3 MPH. He also had a single at 102.9 MPH. Polanco’s triple was hit 104.1 MPH. Curtis had two whiffs and five called strikes on his fastball, which sat 94.6 MPH and touched 96.3. He also had three whiffs on five swings against his slider, with one whiff each on his changeup and curveball.
