Pirates Transactions: Andrew McCutchen Returns, Ben Heller to the IL

The Pittsburgh Pirates have activated Andrew McCutchen from the injured list ahead of Friday night’s game. They’ve also placed right-handed pitcher Ben Heller on the 15-day IL with right shoulder inflammation.

McCutchen had been out since August 17th with left knee inflammation, after getting hurt running to first base on a single.

Heller joined the team earlier this month, and pitched 7.1 shutout innings across four appearances, before allowing four runs in 2.2 innings in his last two outings.

The Pirates also sent RHP Daulton Jefferies on a rehab assignment to Indianapolis. Jefferies has been out since pitching two shutout innings on July 5th.

Minor Moves

Braxton Ashcraft was reinstated fro the 7-day injured list in Indianapolis. The top pitching prospect had been out since pitching three shutout innings on July 6th. In his brief time with Indianapolis, Ashcraft had allowed one run in 18.1 innings, with a 13:4 K/BB.

LHP Justin Bruihl was also activated from the injured list. Third baseman Jose Rojas was sent to the development list. Both players are older, working as minor league veteran depth in Triple-A this season.

RHP Jake Woodford was outrighted to Indianapolis, and declined the assignment, electing free agency. Woodford made six appearances in Pittsburgh, with a 6.95 ERA in 22 innings.

Altoona placed 3B Jackson Glenn on the 7-day injured list, and activated infielder Brenden Dixon.
