The Pittsburgh Pirates have help on the mend for their bullpen. On Tuesday, the Pirates sent Carmen Mlodzinski and Colin Holderman on rehab assignments to Triple-A Indianapolis. They also started the rehab work for second baseman Nick Gonzales.
Holderman threw a single inning on Tuesday, allowing a solo homer for his only damage. Mlodzinski followed with a scoreless inning of work. They both pitched after Ryan Borucki made his second rehab appearance, with a scoreless inning.
Gonzales played five and a half innings, starting at second base and going 1-for-3 at the plate.
All of these rehab assignments came on a night when Jared Jones made his third rehab start. Jones threw five shutout innings, striking out ten batters, with only one hit and one walk allowed.
Minor League Moves
Beau Sulser was promoted to Indianapolis from Altoona, after being signed as a minor league free agent last week. Sulser threw four shutout innings in relief for Altoona in his first game.
Magdiel Cotto was promoted from Bradenton to Greensboro. Last year’s 11th round pick had a 2.63 ERA in 48 innings in relief for the Marauders, with a 49:25 K/BB. The lefty throws a sinker that sits around 93 MPH, with a changeup and slider. He threw a scoreless inning in his High-A debut on Tuesday.
