Pirates Prospect Watch: Thomas Harrington Leads a Great Night in the Minor Leagues

Published:

Thomas Harrington looks like he’s settling in at the Triple-A level. The right-hander allowed one run on two hits in six innings, carrying a perfect game through five innings. Harrington didn’t issue a walk, and struck out six.

The secondary stuff was working for Harrington. He had five whiffs on ten swings against his curveball, with six called strikes for a 42% called and swinging strike rate. His sweeper had two whiffs and two called strikes for a 33% CSW on 12 pitches. The slider had three called strikes for a 30% CSW.

Harrington’s fastball wasn’t as effective as his other pitches, getting three whiffs on 20 swings and five called strikes for a 22% CSW. The pitch sat 93 MPH and topped out at 95.4. He did a great job of mixing locations and changing speeds, keeping the opponents guessing. When it came to three-ball counts, he attacked the zone and was effective throughout the game.

The first two starts from Harrington were a bit rough, with seven earned runs in 10.1 innings. He threw seven shutout innings in his last start, followed by this dominant outing on Friday night. Harrington had a similar story in Double-A, struggling in his first few starts before settling down and consistently looking lights out until his promotion to Triple-A.

If he does the same in Triple-A, he could get a look at the big league level by the end of the year. He should be a rotation option at some point in 2025.
