Pirates Prospect Watch: Matt Gorski Powers Indianapolis to Walk Off Win

Matt Gorski’s 18th home run of the season was a walk-off winner for the Indianapolis Indians on Sunday.

Gorski led the Indianapolis offense on both ends of the game. In the second inning, he hit his 19th double of the season, bringing in the first run, with Indianapolis down 2-1. He added his 20th double to lead off the seventh inning, with the Triple-A squad down 6-5. After taking third for his ninth stolen base of the season, he was left stranded.

With one out in the bottom of the ninth, and the score tied at 6-6, Gorski launched a 383 foot shot with a 99.4 MPH exit velocity, winning the game.

The two doubles were hit at 98.3 and 95 MPH. Gorski also had a forceout that was hit 107.4 MPH, maintaining consistently hard contact throughout the game.

TRIPLE-A: INDIANAPOLIS INDIANS

Henry Davis hit his 13th homer of the year in the eighth inning, tying the score. Seth Beer had three hits and three RBIs, knocking in two in the second and one in the fifth. Isaac Mattson stranded a runner in the sixth inning, then pitched two more shutout innings as Indianapolis worked on their comeback.

STATCAST HEROES

The homer from Davis was hit 105.1 MPH with a distance of 363 feet. He also had a single at 105.1 MPH, and a forceout at 96.4 MPH. Liover Peguero had two groundouts at 104 MPH. Mattson got four whiffs on six swings against his slider.

Altoona didn’t score until the sixth inning, when they were down 6-0. Tres Gonzalez hit a sacrifice fly to score Abrahan Gutierrez, who led off with a single and moved to third on a throwing error. With two outs, Matt Fraizer hit a triple and Kervin Pichardo hit a double, bringing in the second run. J.C. Flowers pitched two perfect innings to close out the game, striking out four.

HIGH-A: GREENSBORO GRASSHOPPERS

GREENSBORO won 7-5

  • RF Hudson Head: 1-for-4, HR, RBI

Termarr Johnson hit his 12th homer of the year, with a two-out solo shot in the third inning. Hudson Head hit a solo shot in the sixth inning for his 12th homer of the year. Mitch Jebb gave Greensboro the lead in the eighth inning, with an RBI single that scored P.J. Hilson. It was the second hit of the game for Jebb. Hilson brought in another run in the ninth with an RBI double.

SINGLE-A: BRADENTON MARAUDERS

BRADENTON won 2-1

Connor Oliver has a 2.45 ERA in 14.2 innings this month, with a 15:6 K/BB. He allowed three earned runs in five innings during his first outing of the month, but has since allowed just one earned run in 9.2 innings across three appearances. Ethan Lege, drafted in the 15th round, picked up his first professional hits on a two hit day. 17th rounder Andrew Patrick hit his first career double.

STATCAST HEROES

Oliver led with his curveball, getting five whiffs on nine swings, with another seven called strikes. Out of 27 curveballs, he had a called or swinging strike 44% of the time. Carlos Castillo also had success with his curveball, getting two whiffs on two swings, with two more called strikes for a 50% CSW on eight pitches. The hardest ball in play was a 109 MPH groundout by Lege, whose first career hit was a 101.1 MPH single. The double from Patrick was hit 100.2 MPH.
