Bubba Chandler threw six shutout innings in his second Triple-A start, extended his shutout streak at the new level to 13 innings.
The top prospect in the system allowed five hits and two walks, while striking out a career-tying-high 11 batters. Chandler previously struck out 11 on June 27th in Double-A.
Working off a combination of his slider and four-seam fastball, Chandler recorded 16 whiffs on the day. Ten of those came off his slider, out of 21 swings. He threw the pitch 37 times, and had a called or swinging strike 38% of the time. His fastball had three whiffs, along with ten called strikes, for a 35% CSW. The pitch sat 97.3 MPH, touching 99.3, and was also thrown 37 times.
Chandler also threw his changeup 11 times, getting two whiffs on five swings. He threw a curveball eight times, getting one whiff and two called strikes, for a 38% CSW.
In his first two starts in Triple-A, Chandler has combined for 13 shutout innings, seven hits, three walks, and 17 strikeouts.

Henry Davis picked up multiple hits for the third game in a row. His biggest hit was an RBI single in the seventh inning with two outs, giving Indianapolis a 3-2 lead. Billy McKinney hit his fifth homer of the year. Jake Lamb doubled for the 19th time this season. Nick Yorke has been hitting .396/.453/.521 this month.

The home run from McKinney was hit 381 feet at 108.5 MPH. Malcom Nunez hit a single at 105.7 MPH. Hunter Stratton pitched 1.1 scoreless innings, picking up one whiff each on his slider, cutter, and four-seam.

Beau Sulser was recently signed as a minor league free agent. After Altoona went down 4-0 in the first, Justin Meis pitched two shutout innings, followed by four shutout frames from Sulser. Mike Jarvis hit his first homer of the year for Altoona, and stole his second base. Tres Gonzalez hit his seventh double.

Carlson Reed made his third start for Greensboro, and gave up his first earned run at the level. Reed has an 0.71 ERA in 12.2 innings, with a 13:6 K/BB ratio. This came after a 2.43 ERA in 77.2 innings, with a 96:42 K/BB in Single-A. Hudson Head picked up two hits, including his fifth triple of the season. Lonnie White Jr. stole his 11th base of the year.

Carlos Jimenez pitched four shutout innings, before giving up three runs in the fifth. He was dealing with control problems, with a wild pitch and a walk contributing to the damage in the fifth. He left with two inherited runners on base, which both scored with two outs. Andrew Patrick, drafted by the Pirates in the 17th round, picked up his first professional hit, along with his first stolen base. Yerry De Los Santos hit his first double this year in Single-A.

Irwin Ramirez was the top pitching prospect signed by the Pirates during this year’s international class. After struggling with control most of the year, and putting up an elevated ERA, he’s settled down his last two starts. Ramirez has combined for one run on four hits in ten innings in those starts, with two walks and ten strikeouts.

Ronaldys Jimenez was added by the Pirates at the trade deadline for Martin Perez. He allowed four runs in 1.2 innings during his last outing, but settled down for 2.2 shutout innings this time around. He’s dealt with control issues, walking 12 in 7.1 innings in his three starts since joining the team. He’s also struck out 11. Cristian Jauregui hit his third homer of the year, and stole his 17th base. Samuel Escudero hit his ninth double and stole his fifth base.
