Pirates Prospect Watch: Jase Bowen Homers in Altoona Win

Published:

Altoona won on Tuesday, led by a two hit day from center fielder Jase Bowen.

Bowen got the scoring started in the first inning, hitting an RBI single to score Tsung-Che Cheng from second base. Later, in the fourth inning, Bowen extended an Altoona lead to 6-2 with a two run homer, his second of the season.

On the season, Bowen is hitting .213 with a .576 OPS. That’s not a great result in his jump to Double-A, but there aren’t many hitters in the system who are performing well. Bowen has the tools to hit for double-digit home runs and steal double-digit bases, while playing positive defense in center field.

TRIPLE-A: INDIANAPOLIS INDIANS

INDIANAPOLIS was off on Tuesday.

DOUBLE-A: ALTOONA CURVE

ALTOONA won 6-4, with help from Jase Bowen’s home run.

HIGH-A: GREENSBORO GRASSHOPPERS

GREENSBORO won 11-6

  • DH Nick Cimillo: 2-for-4, HR, 3 R, 3 RBI, SB
  • SS Jack Brannigan: 1-for-4, BB, 3 RBI, SB
  • 3B Charles McAdoo: 2-for-5, 2 2B, 3 RBI

  • 2B Termarr Johnson: 1-for-4, 2B, BB, RBI

Nick Cimillo hit his fourth home run since May 19th, giving him six on the season. The 2022 16th rounder is batting .319 with a 1.024 OPS for Greensboro, after getting a brief look at the level at the end of 2023. Cimillo is a bat-first catcher and designated hitter, who looks like a candidate for a mid-season promotion to Altoona with the way he’s hitting. Charles McAdoo joins him on that list. After hitting two doubles, giving him 11 on the season, McAdoo has a .311 average and a .915 OPS. The 2023 13th rounder has been one of the most consistent performers in Greensboro this year.
