Saturday Sleepers: Wilber Dotel Off to a Good Start in the Greensboro Rotation

Published:

Wilber Dotel makes his latest start for Greensboro this evening, after starting the 2024 season with 10.1 shutout innings, striking out nine in the process.

The Pirates signed Dotel in late 2020 as an international free agent out of the Dominican Republic. He didn’t spend any time in the Dominican Summer League, instead going right to the Florida Complex League in 2021. Last year in Single-A, he worked as a regular starter. The result was a 3.09 ERA in 78.2 innings, with a 58:44 K/BB ratio.

Dotel worked with a sinker/slider combo last year, also mixing in a four-seam, cutter, curveball, and changeup. The fastballs averaged 93-94 MPH, and Dotel has gotten his stuff up to 98 in the past.
