Indianapolis (45-50) tied its game with Toledo with two outs in the ninth on a home run by Jack Suwinski, but the Indians lost in ten, 6-5.  Mike Burrows started and threw four shutout innings.  Osvaldo Bido and John O’Reilly struggled in relief, with Bido allowing two runs over two and a third innings, and O’Reilly three in one inning.  Suwinski had a big day, coming up a triple short of a cycle.  The home run was his fourth in AAA and came off Sam Howard.  Tucupita Marcano also had three hits, lifting his average to .340.  Taylor Davis had two doubles and Rodolfo Castro two hits.  Travis Swaggerty reached three times on a single and two walks, and stole a base.  Indy had lots of chances, but went 3-for-18 with runners in scoring position.  Fifteen strikeouts didn’t help; Hoy Park picked up four of them.  Indy missed its chance to take the lead in the top of the 10th with a runner on third and one out, as Mason Martin and Jamie Ritchie both whiffed.  Eric Hanhold nearly kept the game going in the bottom half, but a two-out single ended it.

Notable Performances:

  • Miguel Sosa 1-2, HR (2), BB

Game Recap:

The Black team (17-23) has been on the wrong end of a lot of Shelton-style blowouts this year and this game was another one.  They lost to the Angels, 13-1.  Two pitchers gave up all the runs.  Starter Alexis Torres allowed six, four earned, over two and two-thirds innings.  Apart from seven hits, he also uncorked four wild pitches.  The score was 6-1 going into the seventh, and final, inning, when Dioris Valdez, who appears to be a converted outfielder, gave up seven, five of them unearned.  The Pirates had just two hits.  Miguel Sosa homered, his second of the year, to account for the only run.  Richard Ramirez had a double.
