Can’t say it’s something to be too proud of, but per Greg Brown, this is the Pittsburgh Pirates’ first four game winning streak since September of 2019.
With the victory in game two, the Pirates sealed at least a series split, meaning they have yet to lose a series in July.
One factor that’s been fun to see over the last few days has been the Pirates ability to find additional contributors, aside from the usual suspects. With Bryan Reynolds absence, the pitching has stepped up, allowing only three earned runs in the last two contests. This latest game involved strictly the bullpen, meaning Mitch Keller picked a perfect time for his first career seven inning start on Monday.
In addition, Jake Marisnick returned and hit his first two homeruns (his only two on the season), to provide the Pirates only longball contribution so far against the Marlins.
As I myself can be a little superstitious, I wish I had another Major League II quote, but alas I haven’t watched it as many times as others with the ability to ramble them off one-by-one.
Tuesday marks game 10 of 14 straight games in 13 days, leading up to the All-Star Break.
Pirates @ Marlins
Time: 6:40 PM EST
Pirates Starter: JT Brubaker (2-8, 4.34)
Marlins Starter: Pablo Lopez (6-4, 2.91)
Brubaker Notes: JT Brubaker had a string of three straight starts of going at least six innings broken his last time out. He lasted five innings against the Milwaukee Brewers, while giving up three earned runs. He managed to strike out six, but that came with also walking a season high five batters. JT will have a chance to secure the series win tomorrow, with another game to go.
