Pirates Add Beau Sulser; DFA Anthony Alford

Published:

The Pittsburgh Pirates have added right-handed pitcher Beau Sulser to the 40-man and active roster today. To make room on both rosters, Anthony Alford has been designated for assignment. Sulser was scheduled to start for Indianapolis yesterday, so it appears that the Pirates are looking to add someone who can give them innings today if needed. Sulser has a 2.13 ERA and 14 strikeouts in 12.2 innings over three starts this season. The 27-year-old spent the entire season in Indianapolis last year, where he had a 5.65 ERA in a swing-man role.

Alford just returned from the injured list this week after completing a rehab assignment. He went 1-for-4 in two games for the Pirates.

When he didn't make it as a lefty pitcher with an 80+ MPH fastball and a slider that needed work, John turned to covering the game, eventually focusing in on the prospects side, where his interest was pushed by the big league team being below .500 for so long.
