Daily Video Rundown
Wil Crowe
Wil Crowe with 3 Ks in his first official inning of 2022!
Acquired in the Josh Bell trade, Wil Crowe led the Pirates in starts last year with 25, but entered 2022 in a new role. The 27-year old will now come out of the bullpen this year as a multi-inning reliever.
Crowe went 4-8 last year, with a 5.48 ERA with 111 strikeouts in 116 2/3 innings. The total innings pitched trailed only J.T. Brubaker.
It didn’t take long for the Pirates to call upon Crowe in his new role, coming into the game after Brubaker only lasted three innings. Coming on to pitch in the fourth, Crowe immediately made an impact, striking out the side in his first inning of work.
Crowe struck out Tommy Edman, Dylan Carlson and Tyler O’Neil in the fourth, and overall pitched two shutout innings, walking two and striking out three.
Mason Martin
Martin is always an intriguing player to tune in and watch, as he has some of the best power in all of the minor leagues. It has come at a cost, as the young first baseman has struggled with strikeouts as he has moved up the ladder.
After getting a brief Triple-A stint to end last year, Martin began 2022 again in Indianapolis looking to hone his game and eventually get the call to the majors.

In the first inning of the opening game of a doubleheader on Thursday, Martin showed a great approach in an at-bat, showing a strong eye and fought off a couple of pitches. He finally put the ball in play and hit it about as far as he possibly could without it leaving the yard, scoring Rodolfo Castro and ending up on third himself.
Indianapolis Indians Comeback Victory
This one is a little bit of a collective effort, as the Indians rallied back to take game one of the doubleheader 5-3.

We already saw Martin’s RBI triple, but that was followed up by a double by Cal Mitchell in the second inning that scored Canaan Smith-Njigba, giving Indianapolis the lead for the moment.
Then in the fifth, trailing 3-2, Ji-Hwan Bae hit an RBI single to left center to tie the game back up. Castro hit a SAC Fly to put them up 4-3, before Brednt Citta’s RBI single past the second baseman gave the Indians all the insurance they needed.
