MLB Pipeline has the details of the competitive balance picks for the 2022 draft, which will take place over three days from July 17-19 and consist of 20 rounds. We already knew that the Pittsburgh Pirates had the fourth overall pick in the draft. We also knew that they were due to get a competitive balance pick in Round A this year after the first round, but the order wasn’t set until now. The Pirates received the fourth pick in Round A behind the Baltimore Orioles, Arizona Diamondbacks and Kansas City Royals. They finished ahead of Cleveland, the Colorado Rockies and San Diego Padres, with those three clubs getting the last three picks of Round A. The exact number where these picks will end up is still to be determined, but right now it sits as the 35th pick.
