AFL Recap: Jared Oliva Participates in Fall-Stars Game

The Arizona Fall League Fall-Stars Game took place on Saturday night. The Pittsburgh Pirates were represented by outfielder prospect Jared Oliva, who started in right field and batted second for the West squad. He played five innings on defense and went 0-for-2 with two strikeouts and a walk.

With the league off tomorrow and ten games left in the season, here’s a look at the stats for the seven Pittsburgh Pirates participating in the AFL this year:

Oliva is hitting .393/.493/.625 in 16 games, and leads the league with 22 hits, seven stolen bases (in eight attempts) and nine doubles.

Shortstop Oneil Cruz is hitting .176/.282/.206 in 11 games, with one double and five walks. He has struck out 16 times in 39 plate appearances.

Catcher Jason Delay is hitting .083/.154/.125 through seven games.

On the pitching side, Cody Ponce has a 1.93 ERA in 14 innings, with 14 strikeouts and a 1.21 WHIP. He has made three starts.

Beau Sulser has a 4.35 ERA, a 1.84 WHIP and a 9:8 SO/BB ratio in 10.1 innings. He has made two starts and two relief appearances.

Blake Cederlind has a 1.80 ERA in five innings over five relief appearances. He has a 1.40 WHIP and a 4:5 SO/BB ratio.

Nick Mears has thrown 5.2 shutout innings over five relief appearances. He has given up one hit, with two walks and seven strikeouts.
