The Peoria Javelinas are running out of time to make a run at their division title. With seven games left going into Friday afternoon, they were four games back in the standings. The Javelinas took on the Salt River Rafters on the road and won 9-0, putting up runs in each of the last five innings.
Jared Oliva was the only Pirates player in the starting lineup. He batted fourth and manned center field. Oliva doubled in the second inning off of Shane Baz, then scored the first run of the game. It was the 11th double of the season for Oliva, which is three more than the second highest total in the league. He finished 1-for-4 with a walk, two runs scored and his ninth stolen base. Oliva now has a .338 average in 20 games, with 13 extra-base hits and 12 walks.
Beau Sulser came on in relief in the bottom of the fifth inning with a 2-0 lead. He tossed two scoreless innings, giving up one hit and a hit batter, while picking up a strikeout. Sulser had a 3:0 GO/AO ratio and threw 18 of 27 pitches for strikes. He now has a 3.65 ERA in 12.1 innings this fall.
