Minor Moves: Pirates Release Jake Brentz, Move Adrian Valerio and Mitchell Tolman Up a Level

Published:

The Pirates have made a few minor league transactions at the top two levels, following Cole Tucker’s call to the majors.

Mitchell Tolman and Darnell Sweeney were promoted from Altoona to Indianapolis. Adrian Valerio and Jesse Medrano have been promoted from Bradenton to Altoona. None of these players have been performing well on offense this year, and will probably fill out the bench for their new teams down the stretch, or perhaps just serve as temporary replacements until Tucker goes back down.

The Pirates also released left-handed reliever Jake Brentz. They acquired Brentz in the Arquimedes Caminero trade, and he was hitting triple digits with his fastball the year after the move. He has lacked control and hasn’t seen success above High-A, which has overshadowed the velocity.

Infielders Raul Siri and Chase Lambert were added to the Bradenton roster and both are in tonight’s lineup. They were on the injured list.

We’ll keep this updated if there are any more transactions throughout the system.
