Ben Badler from Baseball America has named his top 20 prospects from the DSL/VSL from last season and Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Edison Lantigua made the list. Badler doesn’t rank the players in order, listing them alphabetically instead. The article requires a subscription, so if you can’t read it, you can check out our top ten list from the 2014 DSL season, where we named Lantigua the best prospect on the team and gave a scouting report based on the reports we got from the DSL.
While he didn’t have the best season among Pirates players in the DSL last year, he did get the best scouting reports from multiple sources and at age 18, he still has plenty of upside. Lantigua signed in 2013 for $275,000 and Badler mentions that he has shown improvements with both his arm and base running, but his bat is his best tool. Lantigua is currently in Extended Spring Training and will likely open the season with the GCL Pirates, though a move to Bristol shouldn’t be out of the question.
