Minor League Schedule: Casey Sadler Headlines Sunday’s Starters

AAA: Indianapolis (53-45) vs Columbus (52-46) 1:35pm
Probable starter:  Casey Sadler (8-1, 2.36)
Yesterday’s Result: Columbus 4, Indianapolis 3 (game one) Columbus 2, Indianapolis 1 (game two)

Casey Sadler will make his 14th start of the season tonight. He has also pitched four times in relief for the Pirates. With Indianapolis, he has thrown a total of 80 innings, allowing 74 hits, five homers and 15 walks. He has 52 strikeouts, a 1.93 GO/O ratio and a .250 BAA. Sadler had an 0.50 ERA in three June starts and it’s up to 3.97 in two starts so far this month.

AA: Altoona (37-59) @ Harrisburg (37-57) 2:00pm
Probable starter: Zack Dodson (2-5, 5.14)
Yesterday’s Result: Altoona 9, Harrisburg 1 (game one) Harrisburg 3, Altoona 2 (game two)

Zack Dodson will get his 15th start of the season today. He also made one relief appearance. Dodson has thrown a total of 68.1 innings, giving up 85 hits, seven homers and 24 walks. He has 41 strikeouts, a 1.60 GO/AO ratio and a .311 BAA. In his last start, Dodson gave up eight runs over 3.2 innings. He also lasted just 3.2 innings in his previous start.

High-A: Bradenton (47-41, 12-7 2nd half) vs Tampa (44-47) 5:00pm
Probable starter: Chad Kuhl (9-5, 3.48)
Yesterday’s Result: Bradenton 4, Tampa 3

Chad Kuhl will make his 19th start of the season tonight. He has thrown 103.1 innings, allowing 92 hits, six homers and 23 walks. Kuhl has 73 strikeouts, a 1.77 GO/AO ratio and a .241 BAA. In his last start, he went seven innings, giving up two runs on two hits and he issued a career-high four walks. Kuhl threw six shutout innings against Tampa the last time he faced them.

Low-A: West Virginia (32-60, 11-12 2nd half) vs Greensboro (59-35) 2:05pm
Probable starter: Dovydas Neverauskas (4-7, 5.49)
Yesterday’s Result: West Virginia 6, Greensboro 0

Dovydas Neverauskas will make his 18th start of the season. He has pitched 77 innings, surrendering 94 hits, eight homers and 35 walks. He has 49 strikeouts, an 0.94 GO/AO ratio and a .305 BAA. In his last start, Neverauskas gave up two runs on five hits over seven innings. It was the first time he went seven innings in his career.

Short-Season A: Jamestown (10-18) vs Vermont (11-18) 4:05pm
Probable Starter: Alex McRae (0-1, 3.10)
Yesterday’s Result: Jamestown 3, Vermont 2

Alex McRae will make his sixth start of the season today. He has thrown 20.1 innings, allowing 18 hits, no homers and five walks. McRae has 13 strikeouts, an 0.82 GO/AO ratio and a .222 BAA. In his last start, he gave up three runs and seven hits over five innings.

RK: Bristol (6-15) vs Kingsport (10-13) 6:00pm
Probable Starter: Junior Lopez (2-1, 3.77)
Yesterday’s Result: Bristol 9, Kingston 8

Junior Lopez will make his second start. He has also pitched three times in relief. Lopez has thrown a total of 14.1 innings. He has a 1/13 BB/SO ratio, a .214 BAA and a 1.38 GO/AO ratio. In his only start, Lopez gave up two runs over 3.2 innings. Check out the Bristol season preview.

John Dreker
John started working at Pirates Prospects in 2009, but his connection to the Pittsburgh Pirates started exactly 100 years earlier when Dots Miller debuted for the 1909 World Series champions. John was born in Kearny, NJ, two blocks from the house where Dots Miller grew up. From that hometown hero connection came a love of Pirates history, as well as the sport of baseball. When he didn't make it as a lefty pitcher with an 80+ MPH fastball and a slider that needed work, John turned to covering the game, eventually focusing in on the prospects side, where his interest was pushed by the big league team being below .500 for so long. John has covered the minors in some form since the 2002 season, and leads the draft and international coverage on Pirates Prospects. He writes daily on Pittsburgh Baseball History, when he's not covering the entire system daily throughout the entire year on Pirates Prospects.
