Minor League Schedule: Brandon Cumpton Starts For Indianapolis Tonight

AAA: Indianapolis (48-39) @ Louisville (44-43) 6:05pm
Probable starter: Brandon Cumpton (4-1, 1.35)
Yesterday’s Result: Indianapolis 9, Louisville 3

Brandon Cumpton will make his seventh start of the season for Indianapolis tonight. He had made nine starts for the Pirates, posting a 4.61 ERA in 52.2 innings. With Indianapolis, Cumpton has thrown 40 innings, allowing 34 hits, one homer and ten walks. He has 21 strikeouts, a 1.65 GO/AO ratio and a .238 BAA. His last start for Indianapolis came on May 20th, when he allowed one run over eight innings against Gwinnett.

AA: Altoona (31-54) vs Harrisburg (33-50) 7:00pm
Probable starter: Pat Ludwig (0-3, 7.88)
Yesterday’s Result: Altoona 6, Bowie 3

Pat Ludwig will make his fourth start for Altoona tonight. He also pitched once in relief for the Curve. Ludwig started the year at Bradenton where he made four starts and 11 relief appearances. He has thrown a total of 66 innings this year, surrendering 81 hits, nine homers and 18 walks. He has 48 strikeouts, a 1.29 GO/AO ratio and a .299 BAA. In his last start, Ludwig went three innings, giving up six runs on seven hits and two walks.

High-A: Bradenton (43-40, 8-6 2nd half) @ Palm Beach (47-37) 6:05pm
Probable starter: Jason Creasy (4-4, 3.52)
Yesterday’s Result: Ft Myers 7, Bradenton 6

Jason Creasy will make his 18th start of the year tonight. He has thrown 84.1 innings, allowing 89 hits, five homers and 13 walks. He has 60 strikeouts, a 1.04 GO/AO ratio and a .272 BAA.  Creasy has allowed one run in each of his last two outings, throwing a total of 13 innings. On the road this year, he had a 3.42 ERA in 11 starts. Creasy posted a 2.52 ERA in six June starts.

Low-A: West Virginia (28-55, 7-7 2nd half) @  (Greensboro 55-30) 7:00pm
Probable starter: Justin Topa (3-4, 6.14)
Yesterday’s Result: Hickory 6, West Virginia 1

Justin Topa will make his 11th start of the season tonight. He has also pitched five times in relief. As a starter, Topa has a 5.24 ERA in 46.1 innings, allowing 55 hits, six homers and nine walks. He has 36 strikeouts, a 1.14 GO/AO ratio and a .302 BAA. In his last start, Topa gave up one run over three innings.

Short-Season A: Jamestown (8-12) @ State College (13-7) 1:00pm
Probable Starter: Frank Duncan (0-1, 6.94)
Yesterday’s Result: Williamsport 7, Jamestown 3 in 12 innings

Frank Duncan will make his fourth start of the season. He went three innings in his pro debut, allowing one unearned run. In his second start, he went four innings, allowing four runs on seven hits and one walk. In his last start, Duncan gave up five runs on six hits and three walks in 4.2 innings.

John Dreker
John started working at Pirates Prospects in 2009, but his connection to the Pittsburgh Pirates started exactly 100 years earlier when Dots Miller debuted for the 1909 World Series champions. John was born in Kearny, NJ, two blocks from the house where Dots Miller grew up. From that hometown hero connection came a love of Pirates history, as well as the sport of baseball. When he didn't make it as a lefty pitcher with an 80+ MPH fastball and a slider that needed work, John turned to covering the game, eventually focusing in on the prospects side, where his interest was pushed by the big league team being below .500 for so long. John has covered the minors in some form since the 2002 season, and leads the draft and international coverage on Pirates Prospects. He writes daily on Pittsburgh Baseball History, when he's not covering the entire system daily throughout the entire year on Pirates Prospects.
