Minor League Schedule: Tyler Glasnow and Nick Kingham Lead Big Friday Night

Today is the best night for prospects on the Pittsburgh Pirates minor league schedule this year, with three prospects ranked in the top 17 listed as probables. On top of that, Jeff Locke will make his second start since returning from his spot start with the Pirates. Check out the Prospect Watch from last night. AAA: Indianapolis (23-17) vs Pawtucket (24-18) 7:15pm
Probable starter: Jeff Locke (1-1, 4.85)

Jeff Locke will make his sixth start of the season for Indianapolis tonight. He has also started once for Bradenton and once for the Pittsburgh Pirates. In his five Indianapolis starts, Locke has pitched 26 innings, giving up 30 hits, five homers and seven walks. He has 22 strikeouts, a 1.62 GO/AO ratio and a .283 BAA. Locke allowed two runs over seven innings in his last start. He faced Pawtucket on 5/1, giving up two runs over two innings, before being pulled due to his recall to the Pirates.

AA: Altoona (15-23) vs Richmond (20-18) 6:30pm
Probable starter: Nick Kingham (1-3, 3.41)
Yesterday’s Result: Binghamton 3, Altoona 2

Nick Kingham will make his eighth start of the season tonight. He has thrown 37 innings, giving up 39 hits, no homers and 17 walks. Kingham has 31 strikeouts, an 0.86 GO/AO ratio and a .271 BAA. In his last start, he gave up two runs on seven hits and three walks in five innings. Kingham faced Richmond on 4/17 at home, giving up two runs(both unearned) over five innings.

High-A: Bradenton (19-21) vs Dunedin (28-11) 6:30pm
Probable starter: Tyler Glasnow (0-3, 3.71)
Yesterday’s Result: Bradenton 7, Lakeland 6 in 10 innings (game one) Lakeland 4 Bradenton 3 in 8 innings(game two)

Tyler Glasnow will make his fifth start of the season. He has picked up the loss in each of his last three outings despite giving up a total of six hits. Glasnow has had control issues, leading to 15 walks in 17 innings this season. He has 15 strikeouts, an 0.89 GO/AO ratio and a .140 BAA. In his last outing, he allowed three runs over five innings. It was his first home start of the year.

Low-A: West Virginia (13-26) @ Augusta (17-22) 7:00pm
Probable starter: Cody Dickson (2-4, 4.86)
Yesterday’s Result: Augusta 3, West Virginia 2

Cody Dickson will make his eighth start of the season tonight. He has pitched a total of 33.1 innings, allowing 39 hits, three homers and 13 walks. Dickson has 22 strikeouts, a 1.09 GO/AO ratio and a .298 BAA. In his last start, he went four innings, giving up four runs on four hits and four walks. After not walking a single batter in his first two starts, he has walked at least two batters in each of his last five outings. Since striking out seven batters in his first game, has hasn’t topped three strikeouts in any of his last six starts.

John started working at Pirates Prospects in 2009, but his connection to the Pittsburgh Pirates started exactly 100 years earlier when Dots Miller debuted for the 1909 World Series champions. John was born in Kearny, NJ, two blocks from the house where Dots Miller grew up. From that hometown hero connection came a love of Pirates history, as well as the sport of baseball. When he didn't make it as a lefty pitcher with an 80+ MPH fastball and a slider that needed work, John turned to covering the game, eventually focusing in on the prospects side, where his interest was pushed by the big league team being below .500 for so long. John has covered the minors in some form since the 2002 season, and leads the draft and international coverage on Pirates Prospects.
