Minor League Schedule: Second Rehab Start For Gomez

Jeanmar Gomez gets his second start for Indianapolis tonight, as he tries to work his way back from a right forearm strain that landed him on the disabled list. West Virginia went on their All-Star break yesterday. They will resume play on Thursday. Altoona was off yesterday. Jamestown opened their season yesterday. Check below for a preview of their roster. Yesterday’s Result: Indianapolis 4, Norfolk 2

Jeanmar Gomez will make his second rehab start for Indianapolis tonight. In his first outing, on a limited pitch count, he went three innings. Gomez allowed two runs(one earned) on three hits, three walks and three strikeouts. He is scheduled to go either five innings or 75 pitches today, whichever comes first. With the Pirates this season, he was 2-0, 3.07 in seven starts and five relief appearances.

AA: Altoona (30-37) vs New Hampshire (33-36) 7:00pm
Probable starter: David Bromberg (3-6, 3.66)
Yesterday’s Result: Altoona was off yesterday

David Bromberg will make his ninth start of the season tonight. He has also pitched five times in relief this year. He had an impressive game last time out, striking out 12 batters over six innings of work. As a starter, he is 2-5, 3.25 in 44.1 innings, with 44 strikeouts. At home this season, Bromberg is 2-3, 3.86 in four starts and three relief outings. He has struck out 61 batters in 59 innings this season.

High-A: Bradenton (26-40) @ Jupiter (34-32) 6:35pm
Probable starter: Zack Dodson (1-4, 5.23)
Yesterday’s Result: Jupiter 2, Bradenton 0

Zack Dodson will make his eighth start of the season tonight. He has also pitched once in relief, the continuation of a game postponed by rain last week. In that outing, he went five innings, allowing three runs on five hits, a walk and he failed to record a strikeout. He has pitched a total of 41.1 innings this year, giving up 45 hits, six homers and 13 walks. He has 22 strikeouts, a 1.04 GO/AO ratio and a .269 BAA. Dodson has pitched 15 innings on the road this year over three games, going 0-2, 5.40, with a .279 BAA.

Low-A: West Virginia (37-33) vs Lakewood (26-41) 7:05pm  6/20

Yesterday’s Result: West Virginia is on their All-Star break.

West Virginia is off today. They are on their All-Star break and won’t return until Thursday. They finished the first half of the season in third place, 2.5 games behind Hagerstown. The Power will open the second half with seven home games, four against Lakewood and three against Hagerstown. West Virginia is sending six players to the South Atlantic All-Star Game tonight.

Colten Brewer will make his first start of the 2013 season. He spent last year in the Gulf Coast League, where he went 1-3, 3.24 in six starts and two relief appearances. Brewer pitched a total of 25 innings, allowing 24 hits, three homers and nine walks. He had 18 strikeouts, a 1.57 GO/AO ratio and a .250 BAA. John started working at Pirates Prospects in 2009, but his connection to the Pittsburgh Pirates started exactly 100 years earlier when Dots Miller debuted for the 1909 World Series champions. John was born in Kearny, NJ, two blocks from the house where Dots Miller grew up. From that hometown hero connection came a love of Pirates history, as well as the sport of baseball. When he didn't make it as a lefty pitcher with an 80+ MPH fastball and a slider that needed work, John turned to covering the game, eventually focusing in on the prospects side, where his interest was pushed by the big league team being below .500 for so long.
