Minor League Schedule: McDonald Moves Rehab Up To Indianapolis

**UPDATE** The Bradenton doubleheader today has been canceled due to weather. Games will not be made up due to the fact Daytona and Bradenton do not meet up again during the first half of the season. West Virginia had their game suspended in the third inning due to rain. They will finish the game today, then play a seven inning game afterwards. AAA: Indianapolis (41-20) vs Durham (38-22) 7:05pm
Probable starter:  James McDonald (NR)
Yesterday’s Result: Indianapolis 1, Durham 0

James McDonald will make his first rehab start for Indianapolis tonight. He has pitched twice for Altoona. In the first game on 5/27 at home, he recorded just two outs before being pulled due to his pitch count. He allowed three runs on two hits(one homer) and four walks. Five days later on the road, McDonald threw four shutout innings, giving up two hits and a walk, while striking out two batters. He is scheduled to throw either five innings or 80 pitches.

AA: Altoona (25-34) vs Reading (21-35) 7:00pm
Probable starter: David Bromberg (2-5, 3.83)
Yesterday’s Result: Altoona 7, Reading 3

David Bromberg will make his seventh start of the season tonight. He has also pitched five times in relief. As a starter, he is 1-4, 3.34 in 32.1 innings, with 28 strikeouts. At home this year he is 2-2, 3.71 in 26.2 innings, with 23 strikeouts, though he does have a .301 BAA. Bromberg started against Reading on 5/22, going 7.1 innings, with four runs allowed(all unearned) on six hits and no walks, while striking out eight batters. In his last start, he gave up two runs on three hits and three walks in four innings.

High-A: Bradenton (23-35) vs Daytona (29-27) 5:00pm CANCELED
Probable starter: Eliecer Navarro (1-9, 3.08) and TBD
Yesterday’s Result: Bradenton was rained out

Eliecer Navarro will get his 11th start of the season. He has also pitched once in relief. Navarro was finally able to pick up his first win of the year in his last start. He went seven shutout innings, giving up three hits, a walk and he struck out seven batters. On the year, he has  walked 12 batters, struck out 55 in 61.1 innings and held hitters to a .247 BAA.  He has yet to allow a homer or walk to a left-handed batter in 58 AB’s. At home this year, Navarro is 1-3, 1.91 in five starts.

Low-A: West Virginia (32-26) vs Delmarva (23-32) 7:05pm
Probable starter: Clay Holmes (2-4, 5.04)
Yesterday’s Result:  West Virginia was suspended after three innings

Clay Holmes will make his 12th start of the season. He has pitched a total of 50 innings, allowing 46 hits, three homers and 37 walks. He has 36 strikeouts, a .250 BAA and a 1.74 GO/AO ratio. In his last start, he threw five shutout innings, allowing just one hit and struck out five, though he did walk five batters. He also gave up just one hit over five innings in a start on 5/17 against Lexington. At home this season, he is 0-3, 5.87 in seven starts. Holmes has not faced Delmarva yet this season.

John started working at Pirates Prospects in 2009, but his connection to the Pittsburgh Pirates started exactly 100 years earlier when Dots Miller debuted for the 1909 World Series champions. John was born in Kearny, NJ, two blocks from the house where Dots Miller grew up. From that hometown hero connection came a love of Pirates history, as well as the sport of baseball. When he didn't make it as a lefty pitcher with an 80+ MPH fastball and a slider that needed work, John turned to covering the game, eventually focusing in on the prospects side, where his interest was pushed by the big league team being below .500 for so long. John has covered the minors in some form since the 2002 season, and leads the draft and international coverage on Pirates Prospects.
