Pirates Sign Dominican Third Baseman

Published:

The Pittsburgh Pirates have signed Dominican third baseman Johan Herrera for $300,000, according to Ben Badler of Baseball America. Herrera is a 17-year old who is 6′ 1″, 190 pounds. Badler notes that he stands out for his left handed power. He also notes that he has an average arm, and that his bat is ahead of his defense, which could cause a position change down the line.

The international tracker has been updated with the signing. The Pirates have spent just over $2 M on four players, and have $850,000 remaining in their international bonus pool this year.
