Pirates Have Had Very Few Conversations About Upton

Published:

Jim Bowden of ESPN has an article up looking at five trade proposals for Justin Upton of the Arizona Diamondbacks. Bowden starts off by mentioning that the Pittsburgh Pirates have had very few conversations with Diamondbacks’ GM Kevin Towers. Bowden notes that Neal Huntington called Towers, but it doesn’t sound any different from the calls he made to every other team shopping players.

Bowden also notes what we heard yesterday, that the Pirates don’t match up well with Arizona. He says that a third team would probably have to be involved for the Pirates to land Upton.

In the trade proposals section, Bowden had one proposal from the Pirates, sending Jameson Taillon and Starling Marte to Arizona. As I noted last week, that would likely have to be the foundation of any deal for the Pirates, with two other prospects included. However, we heard yesterday that Arizona is looking for major league players, which rules out prospects.
