Pirates Discussing Extension With Neil Walker

Published:

Earlier today we heard that the Pittsburgh Pirates were discussing an extension with outfielder Jose Tabata, and recently we’ve learned that Tabata has agreed to a deal that will extend the team’s control of the outfielder through his first three free agent years.

Rob Biertempfel also reports that the Pirates are “deep into talks” with second baseman Neil Walker.  He mentions that a deal isn’t imminent, but that the talks are proceeding well.  Walker, like Tabata before his extension, is under team control through the 2016 season.  Biertempfel also adds that talks with Andrew McCutchen have stalled, although both sides are willing to re-open negotiations.
