Allie is making his 4th pro start tonight

AAA: Indianapolis (44-43) VS Toledo (35-52) 7:05pm
Probable starter: Rudy Owens (6-5 5.22)

Owens will get his 16th start of the season tonight. He has thrown a total of 79.1 innings with 94 hits allowed, 21 walks issued and 42 strikeouts. In his last start on 7/1 he threw 5 IP giving up 7 hits, 2 runs and he struck out three. He had a 2-1 6.50 record in four starts in June.

AA: Altoona (36-47) VS Akron (43-42) 7:05pm
Probable starter: Phillip Irwin (2-1 3.94)

Irwin will get his 4th start since being promoted to AA. He went 5 innings in his last start on 7/1 giving up 4 earned runs on 10 hits. Between Bradenton and Altoona he has a 7-1 2.47 record in 13 starts. Over 69.1 innings he has allowed 65 hits, 15 walks and has struck out 52 while allowing just four home runs.

High-A: Bradenton (38-45 overall 8-5 2nd half) @ Palm Beach (37-45 overall 8-5 2nd half) 6:35pm
Probable starter: Brandon Cumpton (1-0 4.09)

Brandon will be making his 2nd start for Bradenton. In his last outing he pitched in relief after Joe Beimel threw the 1st inning on a rehab assignment. He threw 6 innings allowing two runs on six hits and he struck out six. His season totals between WV and Bradenton are 8-4 4.27 over 78 innings with just 20 walks and 56 strikeouts.

Low-A: West Virginia (40-41 overall 5-8 2nd half) @ Lexington (40-43 overall 5-8 2nd half) 12:05pm
Probable starter: Trent Stevenson (0-2 5.40)

Stevenson makes just his 2nd start of the season today with his first start coming on 6/26 when he gave up one run in 4 innings. His last outing was in relief vs today’s opponent on 6/30 when he also gave up just one run in 4 innings. In the month of June he had a 2.20 ERA over 6 games and 16.1 innings. In the previous month he posted a 9.64 ERA.

Short Season A: State College (5-14) @ Batavia (9-10) 7:05pm
Probable starter: Stetson Allie (0-0 6.00)

The 2010 2nd round draft pick, Allie, gets his fourth start of his pro career tonight. He had his best start his last time out giving up just one run over 4 innings with no walks and five strikeouts. On the season he has thrown 9 total innings allowing 11 hits, 7 walks and striking out seven.

Rookie: GCL Pirates (9-5) VS GCL Braves (6-8) 12:00pm

The GCL Pirates are in 1st place, tied with the GCL Phillies and Yankees

VSL: VSL Pirates (26-17) VS VSL Phillies (21-23) 11:30am

The VSL Pirates are in first place and have a 1 1/2 game lead over the 2nd place Mariners.

DSL: DSL Pirates (18-10) VS DSL Red Sox (20-10) 10:30am

The DSL Pirates currently sit in 2nd place, 1 game behind the DSL Red Sox who they play today

John started working at Pirates Prospects in 2009, but his connection to the Pittsburgh Pirates started exactly 100 years earlier when Dots Miller debuted for the 1909 World Series champions. John was born in Kearny, NJ, two blocks from the house where Dots Miller grew up. From that hometown hero connection came a love of Pirates history, as well as the sport of baseball. When he didn't make it as a lefty pitcher with an 80+ MPH fastball and a slider that needed work, John turned to covering the game, eventually focusing in on the prospects side, where his interest was pushed by the big league team being below .500 for so long. John has covered the minors in some form since the 2002 season, and leads the draft and international coverage on Pirates Prospects. He writes daily on Pittsburgh Baseball History, when he's not covering the entire system daily throughout the entire year on Pirates Prospects.
