Weekend Draft Prospects Preview: 4/29-5/1

Published:

Cole looks to rebound from two poor starts.

Anthony Rendon and the Rice Owls are off this weekend, so it’s only Gerrit Cole in action.  Here are the weekend links:

-Perfect Game has a scouting report on Cole.

Beyond the Box Score recaps the debate between Rendon and Cole for the number one overall pick.

-Interesting comment via Kendall Rogers of Perfect Game, regarding Cole:

Interesting comment from a coach. Quote “Our guys are much more scared of facing Trevor Bauer than Gerrit Cole”.

-Cole has had two rough starts recently.  Jason Churchill of ESPN mentions a temporary mechanical flaw that has caused his stuff to be flat, and adds that his change-up hasn’t been as dominant lately.  He’s still considered a potential ace.

MLBTR interviews Rendon.

-I mentioned this earlier in the week, but Baseball America did a mock draft, and all three writers doing the draft said they would take Rendon first overall.

The schedule for Rendon and Cole this weekend:

FRIDAY

9:00 PM EST – UCLA (Cole) vs Oregon State
