The Pittsburgh Pirates have added two more candidates to the official managerial interview list, interviewing Ken Macha and Jeff Banister today. Macha is the former manager of the Milwaukee Brewers, while Bannister ended the season as the bench coach for the Pirates.
Rob Biertempfel had the following quote from Banister: “This is the organization I grew up in. I don’t want to go anywhere else.”
Macha doesn’t seem like a good candidate, as he struggled dealing with the younger players in Milwaukee. That’s not what the Pirates need, since the majority of their roster is made up of young players.
Neither Macha nor Banister seem like strong candidates for the position, although they probably received interviews because Banister is the internal option, and Macha is the hometown option.
