Minor League Schedule: Power Turns to Heredia For Pivotal Game Three

Indianapolis lost last night, ending their playoff run. West Virginia won game two to even their best-of-three series which will be decided tonight. Jamestown won game one of their best-of-three series and will play game two tonight. Check out the Recent Transactions section to the bottom of this page for all Pirates minor league transactions. AAA: Indianapolis (80-64)
Yesterday’s Result: Durham 2, Indianapolis 1

Indianapolis lost game three last night, ending their season. They finished first in their division, with the third best record overall in the International League. Ivan De Jesus led the team with a .319 batting average. Matt Hague led the league with 153 hits. Hague led the team with 69 RBI’s. Andrew Lambo led Indianapolis with 18 homers. Felix Pie was tops with 38 stolen bases. Kris Johnson was the leader with ten wins and he led the league with a 2.39 ERA. Andy Oliver had the most strikeouts with 138 in 124.1 innings

AA: Altoona (63-79)
Yesterday’s Result: Season Complete

The Altoona Curve season is over. They finished in last place in their division, 14 games out of first place.  Justin Howard led the team with a .314 BA. Jarek Cunningham led with 19 homers and Alex Dickerson was the leader with 68 RBI’s. Adalberto Santos topped the team with 21 steals and 62 runs scored. On the pitching side, Casey Sadler led with 11 wins. Nick Kingham had the best ERA at 2.70 in 73.1 innings. David Bromberg led with 136 innings pitched and 127 strikeouts. Luis Sanz was first with 16 saves.

High-A: Bradenton (57-77 overall, 31-35 2nd half)
Yesterday’s Result: Season Complete

The Bradenton Marauders season is over. They finished seven games back for the second half title and 21.5 games back in the overall standings. Alen Hanson led the team with a .281 batting average among regulars. Willy Garcia led the team with 16 homers and 60 RBI’s. Benji Gonzalez led with 27 steals. Hanson and Gregory Polanco each had 24 stolen bases. Nick Kingham and Zack Dodson led with six wins among pitchers. Adrian Sampson led with 85 strikeouts and 140 innings pitched.

Low-A: West Virginia (81-58 overall, 44-25 2nd half)  @ Hagerstown (80-57) 7:05pm
Probable starter: Luis Heredia (7-3, 3.05)
Yesterday’s Result: West Virginia 6, Hagerstown 3 in 11 innings

West Virginia won game two last night in extra innings. They will now play game three in Hagerstown tonight, with the winner going on to the second round of the SAL playoffs. Luis Heredia will get the start. During the regular season, he faced Hagerstown once, holding them to one run on three hits and three walks in five innings on July 3rd. He made 14 appearances this season, throwing 65 innings. Heredia allowed 52 hits, five homers and 37 walks. He had 55 strikeouts, an 0.80 GO/AO ratio and a .224 BAA. He pitched much better at home, going 4-0, 1.52 in 29.2 innings. On the road, he was 3-3, 4.33 in 35.1 innings.

Short-Season A: Jamestown (42-32) @ State College (48-26) 7:35pm
Probable Starter: Dovydas Neverauskas (4-4, 4.01)
Yesterday’s Result:  Jamestown 6, State College 5

Jamestown won game one of the best-of-three series last night. The series moves to State College tonight, where Jamestown can move on to the NYPL finals with a win. Dovydas Neverauskas will be on the mound tonight. He made 15 starts during the regular season, giving up 55 hits, eight homers and 22 walks in 60.2 innings. He had 39 strikeouts, a 1.41 GO/AO ratio and a .243 BAA. He faced State College in his last start and threw four shutout innings. Neverauskas faced the Spikes during the second week of the season and allowed four runs(two earned) in 0.2 innings.

John started working at Pirates Prospects in 2009, but his connection to the Pittsburgh Pirates started exactly 100 years earlier when Dots Miller debuted for the 1909 World Series champions. John was born in Kearny, NJ, two blocks from the house where Dots Miller grew up. From that hometown hero connection came a love of Pirates history, as well as the sport of baseball.
