The Pittsburgh Pirates are set to sign 15th round pick Max Rossiter, Pirates Prospects has learned. Rossiter is a college senior from Arizona State, so the agreement between the two sides isn’t a surprise. The Pirates took him last year in the 32nd round, but he returned to college for his senior year.
Rossiter will head to Jamestown, where he should play a role very similar to the one Jacob Stallings played with State College last year. He’s a strong defensive catcher who does a great job handling a pitching staff, and has good receiving skills. He also has good accuracy and foot work, which help play up his average arm. Jamestown will have a young pitching staff, so having an older catcher with experience behind the plate will be a good thing for the development of that group.
