Tenth Round: Pirates Draft RHP Shane Carle

Published:

2013 draftThe Pittsburgh Pirates drafted RHP Shane Carle in the tenth round of the MLB draft. Carle is another sinkerball pitcher who throws 92-94 MPH. He had a 3.57 ERA in 93.1 innings with Cal State Long Beach this year, with a 75:30 K/BB ratio.

Carle is 6′ 4″, 185 pounds and has a projectable frame. He’s got a slider which can be a swing and miss pitch at times, and a feel for a changeup, although the sinker is clearly the best pitch.

Once again you’ve got a tall right-hander with a low 90s fastball and a good sinker. Jim Callis noted on the MLB Network broadcast that Carle could be a good late inning reliever if he adds some velocity moving over to the role.

Here is Carle’s player page.
