The Pittsburgh Pirates have recalled Phil Irwin from Triple-A, and have optioned Josh Harrison to Triple-A. They’ve also officially announced Irwin as today’s starter.
Since Irwin is a spot starter, I’d expect him to go back down after the game, with a position player coming up to replace Harrison on the bench. That position player could be Brandon Inge. Inge has less than a week left on his minor league rehab assignment. The Pirates won’t be able to recall Harrison for ten days, but they also won’t have a spot for him if Inge is added to the team. That’s just my prediction on this move.
I was expecting Bryan Morris to be the guy who would go down to Triple-A, so it looks like he might have a shot at being up for good. So far Morris hasn’t pitched yet since being called up.
