Pittsburgh Pirates Prospect Watch 8/30/10

INDIANAPOLIS INDIANS (AAA)

Bowker

Indianapolis lost to Columbus 6-4.  Jeremy Powell (L, 10-9, 4.84) pitched 5.1 innings, allowing six runs on nine hits, with a walk and three strikeouts.  Justin Thomas (2.50) got the final two outs in the sixth, stranding a runner.  Steven Jackson (3.71) pitched two shutout innings, allowing two hits, one walk, and striking out three.  Jean Machi (4.13) pitched a shutout inning, allowing a walk and a hit.

John Bowker (..330) went 3-for-3 with a double, a homer (4) and two RBIs.  Akinori Iwamura (.262) went 2-for-4 with a double, a homer (3) and two RBIs.  Mitch Jones (.251) went 2-for-4 with a run.  Kevin Melillo (.268) went 1-for-5 with a double and a run.

BRADENTON MARAUDERS (A+)

Adcock

Bradenton beat Charlotte 3-2.  Nathan Adcock (3.38) pitched five innings, allowing two runs on seven hits, with two walks and three strikeouts.  Casey Erickson (W, 6-2, 3.55) pitched 2.1 shutout innings, allowing two hits and striking out one.  Noah Krol (SV, 33, 3.23) pitched a shutout inning, allowing one hit and striking out one.

Quincy Latimore (.266) went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.  Jordan Newton (.333) went 1-for-2 with a double, a run, and a walk. Shelby Ford (.225) and Eric Fryer (.311) each went 1-for-4 with an RBI.

WEST VIRGINIA POWER (A)

Baker

West Virginia beat Rome 10-4.  Jason Erickson (4.44) pitched five innings, allowing four runs on six hits, with three walks and three strikeouts.  Ryan Kelly (W, 2-3, 4.32) pitched three perfect innings with three strikeouts.  Mike Williams (4.42) pitched a shutout inning, allowing one hit and striking out one.

Andy Vasquez (.333) went 3-for-5 with a triple, two runs, and an RBI.  Aaron Baker (.253) went 2-for-5 with two runs.  David Rubinstein (.286) went 1-for-3 with a double, two runs, and an RBI.  Ramon Cabrera (.264) went 1-for-4 with a run and three RBIs.  Rogelios Noris (.231) went 2-for-3 with a walk, two runs, and an RBI.  Jesus Brito (.196) went 2-for-4 with a double and a run.  Benji Gonzalez (.235) went 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

STATE COLLEGE SPIKES (A, Short Season)

Cumpton

State College lost to Batavia 6-2.  Brandon Cumpton (L, 0-1, 3.52) pitched 2.2 innings, allowing three runs on five hits, with two walks and no strikeouts.  Kevin Decker (4.02) pitched 2.2 innings, allowing two runs on three hits, with no walks and one strikeout.  Justin Ennis (5.74) pitched 1.2 innings, allowing a run on two hits and a walk.  Mitchell Fienemann (3.82) pitched a perfect inning.

Cole White (.264) went 1-for-4 with a solo homer (3).  Adalberto Santos (.321) went 2-for-4 with a double.  Matt Curry (.300) went 1-for-3 with a double and a walk.  Kelson Brown (.287) went 1-for-3 with a double, a walk, and a run.
