According to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, the Pittsburgh Pirates are down to three finalists in their general manager search.

The first name Sherman mentioned was Ben Cherington. We talked about Cherington on Thursday when Ken Rosenthal reported that he was being considered for the job. Cherington started working with the Boston Red Sox in 1999 and helped them to the 2013 World Series in the GM role. He is currently the vice president of baseball operations for the Toronto Blue Jays.
The second name mentioned by Sherman is Matt Arnold, who is currently the senior vice president and assistant GM of the Milwaukee Brewers. He has been in the baseball operations department for five teams, beginning back in 2000 with the Los Angeles Dodgers. He had a ten-year stretch with the Tampa Bay Rays, including nine years as the director of player personnel. Arnold has also worked for the Texas Rangers and Cincinnati Reds.
According to Sherman, there’s a third name in the mix, but it wasn’t mentioned in the article.
UPDATE: While he doesn’t say the Pirates are down to three finalists, Jon Heyman confirms that Arnold and Cherington are finalists for the spot.
Matt Arnold, Brewers exec, is a finalist for Pirates GM, as @Joelsherman1 reported. Ben Cherington also remains in mix.
