Yesterday, we noted that outfielder Chris Sharpe was headed to play winter ball in Puerto Rico for Gigantes de Carolina. About 36 hours after they announced that Sharpe was joining them, the same team announced that third baseman Dylan Busby would also be playing for them this winter.
Busby spent the 2019 season with the Bradenton Marauders, where he led the Florida State League with 22 homers, but that also came with a .213 average and 158 strikeouts in 114 games. Busby was named to the FSL end-of-season All-Star team last month. The 23-year-old was a third round pick in 2017, who has shown power and average defense at third base, but strikeouts, a low average and injuries have played a big part in preventing him from living up to that draft status at this point.
The season begins on November 15th in Puerto Rico. Expect more Pirates to join Gigantes de Carolina, as they have a working agreement with the Pittsburgh Pirates, though some players may join them mid-season.
