Baseball America released their latest mock draft on Friday afternoon. They went through the entire first round and they have the Pittsburgh Pirates selecting Clemson shortstop Logan Davidson with the 18th overall pick. We just covered Davidson recently, adding a scouting report and videos after BA ranked him as the 18th best prospect in the draft. The rankings and mock draft are different, so it’s just a coincidence that Davidson is ranked 18th on both lists.
Davidson is considered an above average defender at shortstop, who also runs well and has average power. There are some strikeout issues and concerns about his past performances in wood bat leagues. Read more about him here.
MLB Pipeline updated their top 100 draft prospects list on Friday. They now have 18-year-old right-handed pitcher Brennan Malone ranked 18th overall. He has also been covered here. Click the link for a scouting report and video.
Malone attends IMG Academy, which isn’t far from Pirate City in Bradenton, so it doesn’t take much to get some eyes on him when he pitches. He’s one of the hardest throwers in this draft class and also has a plus slider.
Pipeline has Logan Davidson ranked 24th overall.
In Keith Law’s latest update, he has Malone ranked 21st and Davidson 27th.
