The Pittsburgh Pirates have signed 31-year-old outfielder Trayvon Robinson to a minor league deal. He has played parts of two seasons in the majors, and spent 2018 playing for Lancaster of the independent Atlantic League, where he hit .295/.382/.442 in 107 games, with nine homers and 19 stolen bases.
Robinson has had a long journey since his last big league time in 2012. He played parts of two seasons with the Seattle Mariners, hitting .215/.272/.330 of 90 games. Since then, he was with the Baltimore Orioles, Los Angeles Dodgers, Detroit Tigers and Arizona Diamondbacks, but has not made it back to the big leagues. His last three seasons were spent in independent ball and he has also played four years of winter ball in Venezuela.
He has been brought along as outfield depth, and he could end up either with Indianapolis or Altoona to start the season, depending on the need. At one time he was a top 100 prospect in baseball. He has 140 homers and 300+ stolen bases to his minor league credit.
