The Pittsburgh Pirates have recalled right-handed pitcher Clay Holmes from Indianapolis. To open up a roster spot, Dovydas Neverauskas has been optioned to Indianapolis.
Holmes was announced as today’s starter on Thursday, so the only real news here is who was going down to Indianapolis to open up a roster spot. This is the fourth time that Neverauskas has been with the Pirates this season. In two appearances, he gave up one run on one hit and no walks in 2.2 innings.
Holmes last pitched for the Pirates on July 14th when he threw six shutout innings against the Milwaukee Brewers. He has made two starts and two relief appearances with the Pirates, posting a 3.65 ERA in 12.1 innings, with 11 hits, eight walks and ten strikeouts.
This appears to be a one start deal and then we could see a reliever back up in his roster spot tomorrow.
