Jung Ho Kang has signed with Aguilas Cibaenas according to the team’s Twitter page on Tuesday morning. They announced him as a 3B/SS and rumors last week were that he would play both positions for the team. The Pittsburgh Pirates have mentioned recently that they have been working to get Kang a winter ball team in the Dominican, although the website Grandes en los Deportes reported that Kang agreed to a deal with the Aguilas last Wednesday, so this is just the deal being made official by the team.
On a side note, Reese McGuire will be his teammate, as seen in the tweet below. Since being sent to the Toronto Blue Jays in the Francisco Liriano deal, he has been on the disabled list twice, including a long stint this last time out due to knee surgery. While we won’t be covering him during winter ball for an obvious reason (we’re not BlueJaysProspects.com) you can easily follow along with his progress now. I’m sure Kang will be a key part of our winter coverage, even if he doesn’t get a visa for the U.S. over the off-season.
Aguilas Cibaenas opens their season on October 13th.
