The Eastern League named their All-Star team for the 2016 season on Saturday afternoon and both Erich Weiss and Eric Wood were named to the team. The Altoona Curve sent four players to the mid-season All-Star game, though neither Weiss nor Wood were selected for that game.
Weiss is currently hitting .279/.352/.414 in 118 games, with 21 doubles, nine triples and six homer. He has played solid defense at second base, posting a career-best .979 fielding percentage and showing improved range. Weiss ranks just outside of the top ten in the league in hits and total bases. He’s third in the league in triples.
Wood is having a solid season, hitting .255/.348/.458 in 110 games. He is tied for sixth in the league with 16 homers, which leads Altoona. He has also excelled on defense this season with a .948 fielding percentage at third base, while displaying improved range. The 23-year-old Wood has an .806 OPS this season, which is well over the .608 mark he put up in his first season with Altoona.
