The Pittsburgh Pirates activated pitcher Ryan Vogelsong from the 60-day disabled list on Thursday. To make room on the 40-man roster, they have unconditionally released pitcher Wilfredo Boscan. To make room on the 25-man roster, infielder Max Moroff was optioned back to Indianapolis.
Vogelsong is scheduled to start tonight’s game, his first game back since being hit in the eye during his start on May 23rd. He made four rehab outings, split between Indianapolis and Altoona. In his last start eight days ago, Vogelsong allowed two runs over seven innings.
Boscan was on the Indianapolis disabled list due to a strained oblique, which wasn’t thought to be serious at the time. He had a 6.46 ERA in 15.1 innings over six appearances for the Pirates, including one start. In Indianapolis, the 26-year-old right-hander had a 3.75 ERA in 84 innings.
Moroff only saw two pinch-hit appearances during his time in Pittsburgh, striking out both times.
