The Pirates removed relievers Craig Hansen, Denny Bautista and Chris Bootcheck from the 40-man roster today. It is not surprising that any of these players were removed, although it is nice to see Neal Huntington’s willingness to part ways with Hansen. He was acquired in the Jason Bay trade, which many fans feel was Huntington’s worst. It is a minor transaction, but once again Huntington shows that he is uninterested in making moves based on PR reasons. That is probably my favorite characteristic of the Pirates’ general manager.
