WTM’s PLAYER PROFILE |
Rosario throws a fastball that ranges from 86-91, or 88-92, touching 93 or 94, depending on your source. By the end of the 2019 season, he was throwing 93 mph, with a slider and curve. He’s shown good control for his age and experience level. The Pirates acquired him, along with some international slot money, for Ivan Nova.
2016 Rosario appeared mainly as a starter in his debut, although he didn’t throw a lot of innings typically. He struggled across the board. 2017 The Sox sent Rosario back to the DSL and he made considerable progress over 14 starts. Opponents had just a .562 OPS against him. 2018 Despite his progress the previous season, Chicago initially sent Rosario back to the DSL for a third season. He continued to make progress there, with a very high K rate. He eventually moved up to the Arizona League for six games, four of them starts. He had more trouble there, but continued to put up very good walk and K rates. 2019 Rosario pitched in relief for Bristol, putting up very strong walk and K rates. He was extremely tough on right-handed hitters, holding them to a .554 OPS. Left-handed hitters had a .731 figure. Rosario could get a shot at full season ball in 2020. |
