| The Pirates signed Melfor during spring training in 2018. He’s shown power potential in batting practice.
2018 Melfor got off to a good start, batting 311/333/444 in June, but after ten games went out with a shoulder injury. After returning, he struggled badly, going just 11-for-73. Strikeouts were a problem throughout. Melfor played third exclusively. 2019 Melfor got only very limited playing time and struggled to make contact when he did play. He mainly split his time between third and DH. Why he couldn’t have gotten some time at first instead of Kaleb Foster, who’s more than four years older, is a mystery. Melfor didn’t get much of an opportunity in 2019. He may need some injuries or similar circumstances to get a chance in 2020. |
