WTM’s PLAYER PROFILE |
Cleveland drafted Brady as a prep pitcher who was advanced enough possibly to move up quickly. He had a fastball that sat in the upper-80s, reaching the low-90s, along with a promising curve, decent change and good command. He’s pitched in relief only once in his career. He’s generally shown good control with unimpressive K rates, although he was struggling with his control in early 2019. The Pirates signed him to a minor league deal after Cleveland released him at the beginning of May, 2019.
2013 Brady pitched well in his debut. Baseball America named him the system’s 30th best prospect after the season. 2014 Brady pitched fairly well in the New York-Penn League, albeit with much weaker walk and K rates. 2015 Brady spent the whole season in the low A rotation. He had a solid season, with good control. 2016 In high A, Brady had more trouble, with opponents batting .304 against him. 2017 Brady missed most of the season with injuries, not taking the mound until mid-July. 2018 Except for one start in AAA, Brady pitched in AA. He didn’t do especially well, with opponents putting up a 271/334/438 line, including 17 home runs. 2019 The Indians moved Brady back and forth between AA and AAA for five starts and he struggled at both levels. They released him at the beginning of May and the Pirates signed him a few days later. He made 22 starts for Altoona and averaged nearly six innings per start. He pitched reasonably well, maybe better than the ERA indicates; he was left in several times to get hit around quite a bit, when the Pirates probably would have taken an actual prospect out. The Pirates signed Brady because they were short of starters at Altoona and he gave them a lot of solid innings. He’ll be a free agent after the season. |
