SCOUTING REPORT
Vazquez enters the 2010 season in the second year of his two year contract with the Pirates, and that contract may be the only thing potentially keeping him on the roster.  Vazquez had a down year in 2009, with a .230 average and a .614 OPS off the bench, a far cry from his 2008 numbers with the Texas Rangers.  With the off-season addition of Bobby Crosby to the bench, plus Delwyn Young’s ability to cover second base, there isn’t much of a spot for Vazquez.  Unless Crosby, Young, or Ronny Cedeno gets hurt in Spring Training, Vazquez would provide the Pirates’ bench with excess infield depth, which is a problem considering the amount of outfielders who could be more effective with that final bench spot.
