| The Pirates signed Brahms as an undrafted free agent after the 2020 draft. He was one of a great many players available for a maximum $20,000 bonus due to the draft being limited to five rounds. Brahms was a starter for four years at Sacramento State, putting up good numbers except for a bit of an off-season in his junior year. He made four starts as a senior before the college season was shut down, posting a 1.14 ERA with no walks and 32 strikeouts in 23.2 IP.
